This is the third and last announcement of the EPS XIX Nuclear Physics Divisional Conference: “New Trends in Nuclear Physics Applications and Technology” to be held in Pavia (Italy) on September 5-9, 2005.

Scientific topics

The aim of the Conference is to discuss the most recent experimental and theoretical achievements in the field of Nuclear Physics applications, as well as the latest developments in technological tools related to Nuclear Physics research.

The main topics of the Conference are the following:

  1. Nuclear Techniques in Medicine and Life Sciences (Cancer Therapy, new Imaging and Diagnostics Tools, Radioisotope production, Radiation Protection and Dosimetry).
  2. Applications of Nuclear Techniques in Art, Archaeometry and other Interdisciplinary fields.
  3. Role of Nuclear Techniques in Environment Problems.
  4. Applications of Nuclear Techniques relevant for Civil Security (contraband and explosive detection, search for Weapons of Mass Destruction, Nuclear Safeguards).
  5. Nuclear Applications in Space Research.
  6. Material and Structure Testing in Research and Industry.
  7. New contributions of Nuclear Techniques to the solution of the Energy Production problems and Nuclear Waste Transmutation.
  8. Emerging experimental techniques, new detectors and new modeling tools.

Final Scientific Program

You may find the final program of the Conference attached to the present message. It is composed by 4 Early Morning seminars and 16 invited talks, 57 oral contributions and 30 posters covering all Conference topics.

IBA-Europhysics Prize in Applied Nuclear Science and Nuclear Methods in Medicine.

During the Monday morning Session of the Conference, the EPS Prize for Application of Nuclear Physics for 2005, sponsored by IBA, will be awarded to the two laureates Werner Heil (Mainz) and Pierre Jean Nacher (Paris) for the development of spin polarized 3He targets by optical pumping and their applications in nuclear science and medicine: nuclear physics, neutron low temperature physics and medicine (http://www.kvi.nl/~eps_np).

Industrial Exhibition

On September 6, 7, 8 an Industrial exhibition will take place at the Conference site. Moreover, during the Conference, the project for the construction in Pavia of the CNAO complex “Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica” (National Centre of Oncological Hadrontherapy”), planned in 2005-2008, will be presented.

Proceedings and information for the Authors

The Proceedings of the Conference will be published on the IOP online journal; Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS at http://www.iop.org/EJ/conf). The deadline for the submission of the manuscripts is October 15, 2005.

Guidelines for the submission and preparation of manuscripts can be found on the JPCS website at http://www.iop.org/EJ/authors and http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/-page=extra.1/1742-6596.

For any problems with the formatting of papers, the person to ask would be Graham Douglas (email: graham.douglas@iop.org), who handles the production of JPCS issues.
