Pavia is located in Lombardy, a region of Northern Italy, and can be easily reached by frequent flights and trains. ![]()

By planeYou can fly to one of Milan's three airports: Linate (50 km from Pavia), Malpensa (90 km from Pavia) or Orio al Serio.
If you arrive to Linate airport, the cheapest and easiest way to reach Pavia is to take one of the six direct shuttle buses (hours: 9 am, 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 3:30 pm, 5 pm, 8:30 pm, 10:30 pm; duration: 60 minutes; look for SGEA buses platform). Alternatively, you can take a bus to Milan's central train station (Stazione Centrale) or a taxi, which is however an expensive choice. Both alternatives will take about 30 minutes. From Milan's central train station, you can take a train to Pavia. The Milan-Pavia train ride takes 30-40 minutes.
If you arrive to Malpensa airport, you will find seven direct shuttle buses per day connecting Malpensa airport directly to Pavia (9 am; 11 am; 1:30 pm; 3 pm; 5 pm; 9.30 pm; duration: 75-90 minutes; look for SGEA buses platform 11 in front of exit 4 of the arrivals). Alternatively, you can take a train (Malpensa Express) that leaves every 30 minutes to Cadorna station in Milan (duration: 40 minutes). Cadorna station in Milan is on the same underground line as the Milan central station (green line). From Milan's central station you can take a train to Pavia. Buses and taxis (an expensive option) are also available from Malpensa to Milan's central station.
If you arrive to Orio al Serio airport, you can take one of the 25 daily runs from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm direct to Milan's central station. From Milan's central station, you can take a train to Pavia. The Milan-Pavia train ride takes 30-40 minutes.
By trainMost European cities are connected to Milan's central station by direct trains (click here for more info). You can take a train from Milan's central station directly to Pavia. The train ride from Milan to Pavia takes about 30-40 minutes.
By carYou can take motorway A7 (pay toll), exiting at Bereguardo (Pavia North). You will find yourself on a free motorway that will take you straight to Pavia (10 km from Bereguardo). Follow the signs to Pavia centro / stazione and then for the University.
From the Pavia railway station to the University of Pavia:
BY FOOT: see the interactive map of Pavia (15 minutes walk).
BUS: take line 3 (direction Montebolone), getting off at bus stop Mazzini-Strada Nuova.
You can purchase your ticket inside the train station, at newspaper stand (you must stamp the ticket inside the bus).
TAXI: There is a taxi stand directly in front of the train station (tel: 0382 27439).
